I explore and express through a variety of mediums, so to say I am a photographer, a painter, an illustrator depends on the project and the season. I sometimes employ art in my science practices. Portraits of the people I write about puts a face to otherwise abstract concepts in the research. Illustration has been useful to transcend concepts for a larger audience, particularly with children. Public murals serve to share storytelling about specific plants and other beings, about histories and lived experiences. I also make art because I must. Sometimes the process is enough.
